Welcome to JCTV. JCTV welcomes students who wish to volunteer, as well as community residents who’d like to learn more about television production. JCTV is a living laboratory for those who wish to gain hands-on experience and learn about media and TV production. The following tips are designed to make your experience more successful and enjoyable.

  • If you have a question, please ask. There are no dumb or wrong questions. There are people here to help you.
  • Be respectful of others who are working in the area.
  • While in training, listen and don’t disturb others with conversations or cell phone calls. Turn off your phone while in training.
  • Keep a positive attitude even when the pressure is on. Hold negative remarks or concerns for private conversations. Offer positive suggestions and constructive criticism. Hold any remarks until the time is right to offer them.
  • If you are scheduled to receive training, come early and participate. Show up for every training session.

  • Do not bring food or drinks into the edits bays, studio, or control room, and keep food and drinks away from any equipment.
  • Volunteer to help others so they will volunteer to help you. Recruit and refer your friends and colleagues.
  • Let the Director direct. Try to see things from their point of view, even if you don’t agree. Work together.
  • Be prepared to learn from your mistakes and take them in stride.
  • The best way to learn about television production is to volunteer. Talk to the Station Manager or Chief Operator about volunteer opportunities.
